Floyd D. Loop, MD

Dr. Floyd D. Loop served as Chief Executive and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation from 1989-2004. He joined the Cleveland Clinic staff in 1970 and was appointed Chairman of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in 1975, a post he held until 1989 when he was named Chief Executive Officer of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

During his 15 year tenure as chief executive, revenues grew from $675 million in 1989 to $3.6 billion in 2004. The Cleveland Clinic is consistently recognized as one of the top 10 hospitals in the United States and honored as one of the best managed medical centers.

Among his awards and honors, Dr. Loop received the American College of Cardiology Cummings Humanitarian Award and the American Heart Association Citation for International Service. He is a past president of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, a director of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery, and has also served on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission.
